The Boreal Wetland Centre will be participating in the International Museum Day festivities being organized by the City of Grande Prairie! Be sure to stop by the Boreal Wetland Centre for a scavenger hunt, snacks, and a walk through the forest to discuss wetlands and biodiversity.

The Grande Prairie and Area Environmental Sciences Educational Society are hosting their annual Walk through the Forest event! This 3-day event takes Grade 6 six students from across the Peace Region through the Boreal Wetland Centre to learn a variety of subjects including forestry practices, wetlands, airsheds, noxious weeds, and urban forests.

DUC will be running the first annual BWC Field School! In collaboration with the Grande Prairie Environmental Association, this event intends to grow awareness and understanding of wetland and environmental stewardship amongst practitioners and decision-makers.
2025 will include training on soil classificaiton, vegetation identification, and wetland identificaiton, classification, and delineation. Details to come!

The annual May Plant Count is coming back to the Boreal Wetland Centre. Hosted by the Alberta Native Plant Council and Nature Alberta, this event counts flowering plant species at the BWC as part of a long term research project looking at plant phenology (i.e., how soon do the plants flower year over year compared to climate data).
This is a public event open to experts and beginners alike! Whether your a serious botanist or just enjoy walking and looking at plants, it is open to everyone. For more information, please contact Trevor Floreani.

Summer students from Weyerhaeuser and West Fraser will be at the BWC to help with the maintenance of the site! In addition, students will be touring the site and learning more about wetlands from DUC.
