Discover the Boreal Wetland Centre

Heading to Evergreen Park for the County of Grande Prairie’s 75th Anniversary celebration? Be sure to stop by the Boreal Wetland Centre while you’re there!

Join us on August 21 and Saturday, August 22, from 12–6 PM for two afternoons of family-friendly activities.

Available Friday and Saturday:

  • Explore the site at your own pace with a free self-guided tour or activity booklet

  • Join Winona Lafreniere for a guided plant knowledge walk exploring boreal and wetland plants through Indigenous knowledge sharing

  • Nature arts and crafts in the outdoor classroom

  • Join our Duck Detective Wetland Walk to learn more about ducks and their habitats

  • Share your nature observations using iNaturalist, eBird, or Merlin Bird ID

  • Measure your wingspan to find out which boreal bird you are

Friday:

  • Take part in nature activities with Terri from Inside Education

Saturday:

  • Site-wide scavenger hunt - win a prize!

This event features demonstrations led by women working in the field, giving students and their teachers firsthand insight into day-to-day work, required skills, and education pathways.

International Museum Day

The Boreal Wetland Centre will be participating in the International Museum Day festivities being organized by the City of Grande Prairie! Be sure to stop by the Boreal Wetland Centre for a scavenger hunt, snacks, and a walk through the forest to discuss wetlands and biodiversity.

Walk Through the Forest

The Grande Prairie and Area Environmental Sciences Educational Society are hosting their annual Walk through the Forest event! This 3-day event takes Grade 6 six students from across the Peace Region through the Boreal Wetland Centre to learn a variety of subjects including forestry practices, wetlands, airsheds, noxious weeds, and urban forests.

BWC Field School

DUC will be running the first annual BWC Field School! In collaboration with the Grande Prairie Environmental Association, this event intends to grow awareness and understanding of wetland and environmental stewardship amongst practitioners and decision-makers.

2025 will include training on soil classificaiton, vegetation identification, and wetland identificaiton, classification, and delineation. Details to come!
